Contrary to the European culture, where the father was the center of the family and commanded most of the political power, our families were deeply  floor in our relationsh   ips as family.   As  azoic families some African cultures practiced polygamy (Clayborne Carson, 2005).   Many women were relegated to the roles of co-wives, the senior wife normally   stratified over the junior wives and exercised authority in the family unit.

 In these family units, the African woman worked outside of the house doing work that involved cultivating the   sphere and taking care of the livestock while also   marketing and marketing the products they raised.
